Illinois Passes Civil Unions Bill!!!

From the ACLU of Illinois:

“Today, the Illinois Senate followed the lead of the Illinois House of Representatives in passing Senate Bill 1716, the Illinois Religious Freedom and Protection and Civil Union Act. The measure creates civil unions in Illinois, permitting couples – including same sex couples in our state – to enter into a relationship that provides all the basic legal protections and responsibilities currently offered only to heterosexual couples who marry. Illinois now joins a growing list of states that provide recognition to same-sex partners, either through marriage, domestic partnerships or civil unions.”

What Do You Think? – The Debate to Classify Honor Killings as a Federal Offense in Canada

Canada is currently debating whether or not to add Honor Killings to the Federal Criminal Code. Some say this is a milestone, others say that murder is already illegal and a special classification would unfairly target Muslims and immigrants.

House Vote Soon on Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell

Take Action With NOW!!

The end is in sight for the unjust and discriminating Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy. To date, more than 10,000 lesbian and gay service members have been discharged from the military because of this policy. To end this policy, we need your help.

This week a key vote is taking place in the House of Representatives on the Defense Authorization bill, and we expect Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-Pa.) to introduce an amendment that would repeal DADT. Unfortunately, the amendment will likely include a delay in implementation of the repeal until after the Defense Department has completed its study of the issue. At the very least, there should be a reasonable time limit on any such delay.
