Face the Truth Tour and Counterdemonstration

Chicago NOW was able to bring 15-20 pro-choice Chicagoans to Daley Plaza on July 9th during the Pro-Life Action League's demonstration.  In attendance were members of Refuse and Resist and the YWCA, as well as others who heard about it via email.

Birth Control Equity Bill Passed

On July 7th Governor Blagojevich signed HB 211 into law mandating coverage for birth control in Illinois.  This is a huge step forward for women in Illinois.

National News

On July 15th the US House of Representatives voted down a measure to restore the UN Family Planning Fund.  The vote was lost by 5 votes.  To view who voted against it look up roll call #362 at www.house.gov (A "no" vote was to restore the funding.

President Bush has yet to sign the "partial-birth" abortion ban...

The US Senate may be taking up the Unborn Victims of Violence Act.  This act will do nothing to prevent the tragedy of losing a wanted child, it will only succeed in granting a fetus equal legal standing to a child, to a man, and to a women.
