Chicago NOW PAC is active in the politics of Chicago. The PAC Board keeps abreast of pending legislation effecting women, and works hard to make women's voices heard in the Chicago City Council. Chicago NOW PAC works on campaigns to support feminist candidates. Candidates are qualified by a rigorous and thorough questionnaire, in which they are asked about their position on choice, childcare, healthcare---all issues that effect women. This Board knows the importance of politics in the everyday lives of the women of Chicago, and aims to be a link to what is going on locally, statewide, and nationally (including the Violence Against Women Act). ~ Did you know that women in Illinois won the right to vote in 1913? ~ CNOW PAC played an important part in the elections last fall, and were instrumental in electing many progressive candidates, including: Representatives Jan Schakowsky, Bobby Rush, Jesse Jackson, Jr., Luis Guitierrez, Rod Blagojevich, Danny Davis Cook County State's Attorney Richard Devine State Senators Carol Ronen and John Cullerton State Representatives Cynthia Soto, Lovana Jones, Judy Erwin, Sara Feigenholtz, Lou Lang, Harry Osterman, Julie Hamos, Richard Bradley, Mary Flowers, John Fritchey and Larry McKeon Illinois Supreme Court Justice Thomas Fitzgerald Cook County Judicial Circuit Judge Joyce Murphy Judicial 3rd Sub-Circuit Judge Peter Flynn |
