Join us for Coasters Promoting Awareness - Fundraiser and Preview Party

Join us on October 14th at Schuba's between 7pm and 9pm for a party to help raise funds for "Coasters Promoting Awareness". "Coasters Promoting Awareness" is a project of the Chicago NOW Violence Against Women team; our goal is to raise awareness about rape and sexual assault. School room lectures are not enough; we’re bringing our Anti-Assault/Pro-Consent message to men and women after they’ve let their hair down.

During the weeks following our launch party, Pro-Consent Coasters will be distributed to local bars around Chicago. The Empty Bottle, T's Bar, Sofo, & Narcisse have all agreed to distribute our coasters!! Here’s what the coasters will say:
1. Asking is the first thing you do with your mouth.
2. Coercion is not consent!
3. When does a date become a crime?

Visibility for our pro-consent message at bars, taverns, lounges, and other venues where people meet, drink and mingle is crucial. Here’s why:
1. 80% of rape victims are under the age of 30 and bars are filled with men and women under the age of 30.
2. One-half (50%) of all violent crimes occur when one or both of the individuals are intoxicated.
