Chicago was chosen as the host city for the Gay Games VII in July 2006, beating out bid submitted by cities around the world. The event is expected to draw over 12,000 participants and 15,000 spectators, and generate at least $25 million for the local economy. For information about how to get involved, visit GayGamesChicago.org or e-mail Info@GayGamesChicago.org.
Team Goals: We need to outlaw discrimination based on sexual orientation. We need to stop the violence that keeps many of us silent for fear of being known or perceived as lesbian, gay, or bisexual. More of us need to tell the truth about our lives and make it clear that homophobia is a social disease. We need legal recognition of all of our families. We need the same rights to health, pension, and tax benefits as heterosexual couples. We need to stop bigoted judges who take children away from nurturing lesbian mothers. Regardless of your sexual orientation, we urge you to stand united against discrimination.
The Lesbian Rights Team meets on the second Tuesday of every month. We meet at Kopi Cafe (5317 N. Clark Street) in Andersonville from 6:30-8:00pm.
Events planned for 2006 include:
May: Early to Bed Fundraiser
June: T's Fundraiser, Pride Parade, Dyke March
July: Gay Games Panel
August: Market Days Tabling
