CEDAW Passes City Council

We are happy to report that the City of Chicago passed the UN Convention to End Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), meaning Chicago has joined the ranks of cities like San Fransisco, San Diego, Milwaukee, Los Angeles and others as well as California, Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusettes, New York, South Dakota and Vermont.

By working with a coalition of local womens organizations, Chicago NOW successfully lobbied the City Council and got this important piece of legislation passed.

Fortune 500 Project

Two years ago, NOW launched the Women-Friendly Workplace Campaign. This year, to celebrate the progress made on many fronts, NOW inagaurates the Fortune 500 Project, to recognize and work with corporations who are leading the way to gender equality in the workplace. Some of the companies that have already pledged to work with NOW to end discrimination and harassment are GTE, IBM, JP Morgan, TYCO International and Viacom.
